NY art dealer Jeffrey Deitch to head LA art museum
LOS ANGELES — Noted New York gallery owner Jeffrey Deitch (DY’-ch) has been chosen to head the Los Angeles Museum of Contemporary Art.
MOCA announced Monday that Deitch will be its new director after longtime director Jeremy Strick resigned in the midst of a financial meltdown two years ago.
The museum was forced to make layoffs, used up its reserve funds and took a $30-million bailout from its chairman, billionaire Eli Broad (Brohd).
It also raised another $34 million last year after years of fundraising shortfalls.
The director of New York’s Museum of Modern Art, Glenn Lowry, says Deitch has run one of the “most exciting and adventuresome galleries” in that city. Deitch is a Harvard Business School graduate.
