Virgin America discounts Toronto flights

SAN FRANCISCO — Virgin America said Thursday it was launching a fare sale on flights to Toronto, with some seats from California for $149 each way, plus taxes and fees.

Virgin said seats at the sale prices were limited — it didn’t say how many — and might not be available at all on some flights. They must be purchased seven days in advance, with the sale ending Oct. 10 and covering travel between Oct. 6 and Dec. 15.

The airline also said beginning Friday passengers on international flights won’t be charged for the first checked bag. Customers in first class and higher-priced coach seats will get to check two bags free.

Virgin began flying to Toronto from Los Angeles and San Francisco in June and plans to operate flights to Los Cabos and Cancun, Mexico.
