Event at Great Lakes Museum looks at new exhibits
DETROIT — An event at the Dossin Great Lakes Museum in Detroit is highlighting two new exhibits at the museum.
Detroit Historical Society Curator Joel Stone on Wednesday is scheduled to discuss “Life on a Long Ship: Great Lakes Sailors” and “Dossin Great Lakes Museum: Celebrating 50 Years” at the museum on Belle Isle.
“Life on a Long Ship” is a glimpse into the work routines and relaxing moments of those aboard Great Lakes ships. “Celebrating 50 Years” documents the museum’s efforts to preserve and present Great Lakes maritime history.
The museum opened July 24, 1960 on the former site of the Maritime Museum of Detroit, which for seven years was aboard a wood schooner.
