AirTran launches sale for flights into November
DALLAS — AirTran Airways announced a sale Tuesday with fares as low as $44 one way, plus taxes and fees, for travel from March 19 through Nov. 16.
Several airlines matched AirTran on routes where they compete, said Tom Parsons, CEO of travel site BestFares.com.
HGe said the sale doesn’t include Fridays and Sundays, and there are 28 blackout dates. Parsons added that it was unusual for an airline to cut prices in March for travel over the next eight months.
“It shows you that the advance bookings aren’t there,” he said.
AirTran listed sample fares on its Web site, including $188 roundtrip between Boston and Los Angeles; $158 roundtrip between Orlando, Fla., and Chicago or Dallas; and $138 roundtrip between Detroit and Atlanta. Those figures don’t include taxes and fees.
The sale runs through Thursday and the airline didn’t say how many seats were available at the cheap prices.
