Delhi Metro Rail Corporation Orders 40 New Coaches

NEW DELHI, INDIA (GaeaTimes.com)- Crowds inside a metro train in New Delhi is set to become a thing of the past as soon as the announcement made by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation comes into effect. Going by the new announcement, each metro train in New Delhi will now have six coaches to its name instead of the four coaches that every Delhite is used to seeing.
The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation has placed an order of 40 more coaches to be used in the existing trains running in the metro tracks of the city. However the sad news is that the new coaches will not start functioning before the Commonwealth Games to be held in the city in the month of October. A spokesperson for the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation says that it was the increasing crowds in the city’s metros which led them to take the decision of adding new coaches to the existing ones in the New Delhi metro trains. He also confirmed that two orders of 40 and 74 new coaches have already been placed.
When the new coaches are added to the old ones in the month of December this year it will take the total number of broad gauge coaches in the New Delhi metro for Phase II to 538. The announcement from the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation came on Friday where it was also announced that Bombardier Transportation will be delivering 40 of the new coaches that have been proposed. The new coaches will be manufactured by Bombardier Transportation at Savli. The total cost incurred in the manufacturing the new coaches for the New Delhi Metro Railways stands at $55 million US.
