Spirit Airlines talks extended 2 hours

Pilots for Spirit Airlines say negotiations have been extended two more hours.

A union hot line message recorded soon after the 12:01 a.m. EDT strike deadline says the National Mediation Board asked for the talks to keep going. The mediation board has been guiding the talks between the airline and the pilot union in Washington.

Pilots had been threatening to walk out at 12:01 a.m. Eastern if there was no deal. They have said they wanted pay comparable to pilots at JetBlue and AirTran.
