Volcanic Ash Update: Air Travel Affected

The volcanic ash continue to erupt into the atmosphere of Iceland, resulting many flights to be canceled. Many scheduled flights to/from the UK, Ireland, Denmark, Finland, Norway, Sweden, Belgium, Holland, France, Germany, Poland and the Baltic States are declared cancel, until 1300hrs on Wed 21 April.

The volcanic ash wafting over northern Europe is already costing the airline industry $200 million a day and devastating overseas tourist attractions.

The ash clouds prevented nearly 12,000 European travelers from visiting New York over the weekend.

In contrary to 24,000 flights that take off European airspace on most Sundays, only 5000 took off this Sunday.

Airports have lost close to 136 million euros ($184 million) so far and almost 6.8 million passengers have been affected.

According to Ryanair,
Flights Cancelled until 13:00hrs Wednesday 21 April

All flights to/from the UK are cancelled.

All flights to/from Ireland are cancelled

All flights to/from Denmark and Finland are cancelled.

All flights to/from Norway and Sweden are cancelled.

All flights to/from Belgium and Holland are cancelled.

All flights to/from France are cancelled.

All flights to/from Germany are cancelled.

All flights to /from Poland, Lithuania, Latvia, Crotia are cancelled.

All flights to/from Northern Italy (Milan Bergamo, Turin, Verona Brescia, Treviso Venice, Trieste, Genoa, Bologna) are cancelled.

— According to the latest updates from CBS: Volcano experts offered Monday an ever so slightly optimistic bit of news to the millions of stranded airline passengers grounded by an Icelandic eruption of ash and dust; the latest belches of jet-engine clogging debris don’t seem to be reaching flight altitude.
